Stadium Overview

The JobServe Community Stadium is Colchester United’s modern home on the northern edge of Colchester, close to the A12. It replaced Layer Road in 2008 and is very different in feel from the club’s old ground: open, practical, out-of-town and designed around road access, events and matchday parking.

The stadium has four separate single-tier stands. The West Stand is the largest and contains the main facilities, tunnel, dugouts and hospitality areas. The South Stand is the main home atmosphere end, the East Stand is used by home supporters and families, and the North Stand is the usual away section.

The ground is clean, functional and easy to navigate. It does not have the tight town-centre feel of older stadiums, and the surrounding area can feel quiet before and after matches, but the views are generally good and the facilities are modern for League Two.

Away End

Away supporters are normally housed in the North Stand behind one goal. This is the standard visiting section at the JobServe Community Stadium and provides covered, all-seater accommodation with clear views of the pitch.

For some fixtures, away arrangements can vary and visiting supporters may be placed in part of the JobServe Stand depending on allocation and demand. Supporters should follow their own club’s ticket details because the exact stand, block and seating arrangements can change from match to match.

The away end is straightforward and modern, with concourse facilities and clear segregation. The main thing to plan is getting to the stadium, as it is out of town and not immediately beside the railway station. Supporters arriving by car should check parking arrangements in advance rather than relying on nearby streets.

Matchday Advice

The JobServe Community Stadium is easiest by car, coach or Park and Ride. The ground is close to the A12 and has a large managed car park, but parking is usually controlled and may need to be booked or paid for in advance.

Colchester railway station is the main rail option, but the stadium is not next door to the station. The walk can take around 45 minutes, so many supporters use buses, taxis or Park and Ride services depending on kick-off time and availability.

For neutral supporters, the West Stand gives the best overall view and access to the main facilities. Families may prefer the East Stand, while the South Stand is the main home atmosphere area. Away supporters are normally in the North Stand. Because the stadium is out of town, plan food, drink and transport rather than assuming there will be a large number of pubs immediately outside the ground.

Tickets

Colchester United tickets are sold through the club’s official ticketing channels, including online sales and ticket machines in the club shop. The club has used QR-code ticketing through self-service machines, although seat choice may be limited when using those machines.

Away supporters should normally buy tickets through their own club once the visiting allocation is released. Colchester’s own guidance directs away supporters to their visiting club for away ticket sales, so fans should check their club’s announcement for prices, collection details and any matchday availability.

For home neutrals, the West Stand is usually the strongest choice for comfort and view. Families are better suited to the East Stand, while supporters wanting the livelier home experience should look towards the South Stand. Away fans should use the designated away allocation and should not assume ticket sales will be available on the day.

Stadium Rules

Standard EFL stadium rules apply at the JobServe Community Stadium. Supporters should expect searches and normal restrictions on alcohol, pyrotechnics, discriminatory behaviour, offensive chanting and entering the field of play.

Colchester’s matchday guidance is particularly important around travel and parking. Vehicle access is managed through the stadium approach roads, and supporters should follow official parking, Park and Ride and traffic instructions.

The stadium is close to residential and business areas, so supporters should avoid parking irresponsibly or blocking access routes. Stewards and traffic staff should be followed, especially after full-time when traffic can build up around the A12 and United Way.

Accessibility

The JobServe Community Stadium is a relatively accessible modern stadium. It has wheelchair gantries in all four stands, companion seating, accessible toilets, lift access and steward support. This makes it more practical for disabled supporters than many older grounds in the division.

Supporters with access requirements should still book in advance, especially for wheelchair spaces, companion tickets and parking. The stadium car park is managed, so accessible parking should be confirmed before travel rather than assumed on arrival.

Because the stadium is outside the town centre and a long walk from Colchester station, disabled supporters arriving by public transport should plan the final part of the journey carefully. A taxi, Park and Ride or pre-arranged transport may be more suitable than walking from the station.

Stadium Tours

There does not appear to be a regular public stadium tour programme at the JobServe Community Stadium. The stadium is used for events, conferences and hospitality, so occasional access may be possible through organised activity, but standard football stadium tours do not appear to be a regular bookable offer.

Supporters interested in visiting outside matchday should check directly with Colchester United or the stadium events team rather than assuming tours are available.
