Stadium Overview

Haig Avenue, also referred to as the Southport FC Stadium and recently known through sponsorship as The Big Help Stadium, is one of the older and more traditional grounds in National League North. It opened in 1905 and remains a proper four-sided non-league stadium with a strong sense of history.

The ground has the Sam Shrouder Main Stand on one side, the Poplar Terrace opposite, the covered Jack Carr Stand at the home end and the open Blowick End, which is commonly associated with away supporters when segregation is used. It has far more traditional character than many modern community grounds at this level.

Haig Avenue is spacious by Step 2 standards, with a capacity of around 6,000 and a mixture of seating and standing. The ground can feel exposed in poor weather, especially on the open terraces, but it remains one of the division's classic non-league football grounds.

Away End

Away supporters at Southport are commonly housed in the Blowick End when segregation is used. This is an open terrace at one end of Haig Avenue, so visiting supporters should be prepared for the weather, especially wind and rain coming in from the coast.

The away end gives a reasonable view but it is uncovered, which can make it a very different experience from grounds with covered away terraces. For some fixtures, away supporters may also have access to facilities or seating depending on the match arrangements, but this should not be assumed.

Segregation is fixture dependent. For bigger games or larger away followings, away fans should expect to use the designated away end and buy the correct ticket. For lower-risk fixtures, arrangements may be more relaxed, but supporters should always check club guidance before travelling.

Matchday Advice

Southport is a traditional football away day with the ground set away from the main seafront but still close enough to the town for pre-match options. The nearest railway station is Meols Cop, around ten minutes on foot, while Southport station is closer to a twenty-minute walk or short bus ride.

There is limited parking at Haig Avenue and much of it is reserved, so most supporters use local street parking. Park considerately because the ground sits among residential streets and school playing fields.

Away fans should dress for the weather if placed in the Blowick End, as it is open. For neutral supporters, the Main Stand is the most comfortable option, while the home terrace behind the goal gives the strongest Southport atmosphere.

Tickets

Southport sell tickets online and also use club shop or turnstile sales for many fixtures, depending on the match. Recent visiting information for league fixtures has listed adult, concession, young-person and under-12 categories, with carer tickets available free when purchased with a disabled ticket.

Away fans should check whether the fixture is segregated and whether they need an away ticket for the Blowick End. For bigger games, buying online in advance is recommended rather than relying on turnstile availability.

For neutral supporters, the Main Stand gives the best protected view. Terrace tickets offer a more traditional experience, but if you are sensitive to weather, avoid the open ends unless conditions are good.

Stadium Rules

Southport operate standard football ground regulations at Haig Avenue. Supporters should use the correct entrance, follow steward instructions and remain in the correct home or away area if segregation is in place.

Because the away end is usually an open terrace when segregation is used, supporters should not expect to move into covered home areas unless the club has confirmed the match is unsegregated.

Parking around Haig Avenue should be considerate. There is limited stadium parking and much of it is reserved, so supporters using local streets must avoid blocking driveways, junctions or school access routes.

Accessibility

Southport accessibility arrangements should be checked with the club before travelling. Haig Avenue is an older ground with seated, covered terrace and open terrace areas, so access and shelter can vary significantly depending on where supporters are allocated.

Recent visiting information has listed disabled supporters within the concession category and stated that a carer ticket is free when purchased with a disabled ticket. Supporters should confirm the current process with Southport before buying.

Away supporters with mobility needs should be particularly careful if the Blowick End is in use, as it is an open terrace. Contact the club in advance to ask about accessible entrance, seating and carer arrangements.

Stadium Tours

Regular public stadium tours are not normally advertised at Haig Avenue. The ground has history and character, but Southport do not appear to operate a scheduled public stadium tour like larger professional clubs.

Supporters interested in group visits, community access or special arrangements should contact Southport directly, but most visitors should expect to experience the ground on a matchday.
