Stadium Overview

Lancaster City play at Giant Axe on West Road, a long-established ground close to Lancaster railway station and the city centre. It is a traditional non-league venue with a capacity of around 3,500 and has been Lancaster City's home for generations.

The ground has a good mixture of covered seating, covered standing and open areas. The main stand gives a side-on seated view, while terraced and hardstanding areas around the rest of the pitch provide more traditional standing options. The ground is compact, easy to understand and close enough to the pitch to keep the atmosphere tight.

Giant Axe has a distinctive setting beside the railway and close to the centre of Lancaster. It is not a polished modern stadium, but it is a proper old football ground with enough cover and character to make it one of the more enjoyable traditional venues in the division.

Away End

Away arrangements at Lancaster City vary by fixture. For most standard league matches, segregation is not normally expected and visiting supporters can usually choose their position around the ground. For larger games, cup ties or fixtures with a strong travelling support, the club may introduce specific arrangements.

Lancaster's own visitor guidance focuses on general access to Giant Axe rather than a fixed permanent away end, which reflects the usual non-league setup. Away supporters should therefore check matchday information before travelling, especially if the game is expected to be busy.

If the match is unsegregated, away fans can usually use the same covered seating, terracing and open areas as home supporters. If segregation is announced, use the entrance and section details issued by the clubs.

Matchday Advice

Giant Axe is one of the easier grounds in the division to visit by public transport. Lancaster railway station is very close, and the ground is also around a 10-minute walk from the bus station and Common Garden Street. That makes it a good away day for supporters who do not want to drive.

Parking around the ground and city centre can be busy, so rail travel is often the simplest option. If driving, check the club's visitor guidance and allow time for city traffic, especially on Saturdays.

For neutral supporters, the main stand is the best option for a side-on view, while the terracing gives a more traditional non-league feel. The ground is exposed in parts, so covered areas are worth seeking out in poor weather.

Tickets

Lancaster City offer both online ticketing and admission on entry for many fixtures, with prices and availability confirmed in the club's match information. Recent away guides have listed tickets as available on entry to Giant Axe and online, with adult, concession, student and junior prices.

Away supporters should check whether the match is segregated or subject to any specific away arrangements. For normal league fixtures, a separate away allocation is not usually required, but larger fixtures may be handled differently.

Neutral supporters can usually buy in advance online or pay on the day where available. If you want seating, arrive early because covered seats and the best side-on views can be popular.

Stadium Rules

Giant Axe operates standard football ground rules: no pyrotechnics, no pitch incursions, no throwing objects, no discriminatory or abusive behaviour, and no access to restricted areas. Lancaster City's visitor guidance also makes clear that discrimination of any kind is not tolerated at the ground.

Alcohol should only be consumed in permitted areas and supporters should follow stewarding instructions. If segregation is in operation, supporters must remain in their allocated section and use the correct entrance.

Accessibility

Giant Axe is a traditional older ground, so disabled supporters should contact Lancaster City in advance for the latest information on step-free access, wheelchair viewing, accessible toilets and parking. Some areas of the ground will be easier to use than others because of the mix of older stands, terracing and open hardstanding.

Away disabled supporters should check whether any fixture-specific arrangements apply, especially if segregation is introduced. Advance contact is recommended if accessible parking, seating or assistance on arrival is required.

Stadium Tours

Regular public stadium tours are not normally advertised at Lancaster City. Giant Axe is a working non-league football ground, so supporters wanting to see it should plan around a matchday or contact the club directly for any special access request.
