Stadium Overview

The Kassam Stadium is one of the most recognisable modern grounds in the EFL because of its unusual three-sided layout. Opened in 2001 after Oxford United left the Manor Ground, it sits at Grenoble Road in the OX4 area, beside the leisure park, cinema, hotels and car parks. The stadium was designed as a modern all-seater venue, but the open west end has always made it feel incomplete.

The South Stand is the main stand and contains the principal club, hospitality and media facilities. The North Stand runs along the opposite side and includes the away section and away ticket office area. The East Stand behind one goal is the main home end and is usually the loudest part of the stadium. The missing fourth stand leaves the opposite end open, with the fence and car park area visible beyond the pitch, which gives the ground a very distinctive but slightly exposed feel.

Views are generally good because the stadium is modern and all-seater, but the atmosphere can be affected by the open end and exposed location. The Kassam is practical, easy to identify from the approach roads and well served by the surrounding leisure park, but it does not have the tight, enclosed character of Oxford's old Manor Ground.

Away End

Away supporters at the Kassam Stadium are housed in the North Stand. Oxford United's visiting supporter information states that the visiting club manages advance ticket sales for the away end, including the wheelchair bays. If a match is not all-ticket, remaining away tickets may be sold on matchday from the away ticket office in the North Stand, which is also used for collections.

The away section gives a side-on view rather than the traditional behind-the-goal experience. This is usually a decent view of the match, although the stadium's three-sided layout means the atmosphere can feel more open than enclosed. Away supporters arriving by car are directed towards car park B1, opposite the VUE cinema, which is a useful landmark within the leisure park.

The main thing for away fans to plan is access and timing. Oxford's stadium site has limited road access, and queues can build when large numbers arrive close to kick-off. Arrive early, especially if collecting tickets, using the away ticket office or needing accessible support.

Matchday Advice

The Kassam Stadium is straightforward to find by road because it is signposted on major approaches to Oxford with brown football signs and sits beside the leisure park at Grenoble Road. The problem is not finding it, but getting in and out. There is limited road access to the stadium site, and queues can become lengthy as kick-off approaches. Oxford's own visiting advice tells away supporters to use car park B1 opposite the VUE cinema.

Oxford railway station is not close to the stadium, so train users should plan onward travel by bus, taxi or a longer connection across the city. The stadium's out-of-centre location means it is not the easiest ground for a simple station-to-stadium walk.

For neutrals, the South Stand gives the best main-stand experience, while the East Stand is the home atmosphere end. The North Stand gives a decent side-on view, including the away section. Because the ground is exposed at one end, dress for the weather, especially on cold or wet evenings.

Tickets

Oxford United sell home tickets through the club's official ticket office and online channels. The East Stand is the main home atmosphere end, while the South Stand gives the most complete main-stand experience. The North Stand gives a good side-on view but also contains the away section, so home supporters should check the seating map carefully when buying.

Away tickets are managed in advance by the visiting club, including tickets for the away wheelchair bays. Oxford's visiting supporter information states that if a fixture is not all-ticket, remaining away tickets can be sold on matchday from the away ticket office in the North Stand, which also acts as the collection point. Do not rely on this being available for every game.

For supporters buying late, Oxford's ticketing information explains that collection arrangements can depend on the cut-off time and the day of the fixture. Away fans should check their own club's ticket news as well as Oxford's visiting supporter guide before travelling.

Stadium Rules

The Kassam Stadium is an all-seater stadium, and Oxford United's club charter states that supporters should remain in their seat while the game is in progress. Persistent standing may result in ejection. The club charter also states that the stadium is smoke free and that e-cigarettes are not permitted.

Standard EFL ground rules also apply. Pyrotechnics, smoke bombs, offensive weapons, alcohol brought into the stadium, discriminatory abuse, missile throwing and entering the pitch are prohibited. Supporters should use the stand, block and seat shown on their ticket.

Away fans should use the North Stand away arrangements and follow steward instructions around the away ticket office, away turnstiles and car park B1. Because the stadium site can become congested, supporters should avoid blocking access roads, verges or residential areas nearby.

Accessibility

Oxford United's visiting supporter information states that the visiting club manages advance ticket sales for the away end, including tickets for the thirteen wheelchair bays. This means away disabled supporters should normally arrange their tickets through their own club rather than trying to buy directly from Oxford on the day.

The Kassam Stadium is a modern all-seater ground, but the site layout and car-park access still need planning. Away supporters with mobility needs should check car park B1, the North Stand away entrance, collection arrangements and accessible toilet locations before travelling.

Because there is limited road access into the stadium site and queues can build close to kick-off, disabled supporters should arrive early. Anyone needing companion seating, step-free access, assistance or accessible parking should contact the relevant ticket office in advance.

Stadium Tours

Oxford United have offered Kassam Stadium tours in the past, including half-term behind-the-scenes tours covering areas such as the Wall of Fame corridor, tunnel, dressing rooms, boardroom, trophy cabinet, press room and dugouts. However, there does not appear to be a clearly advertised regular public stadium tour schedule on the current club visitor pages.

Supporters interested in a tour should contact Oxford United directly or watch for one-off tour announcements during school holidays or special events. A regular public tour should not be assumed unless it is listed by the club at the time of planning.
